NEARLY 10,000 prisoners were served a vegan Christmas dinner in UK jails. Prisons laid on menus without animal or dairy products because the number of cons who refuse to eat them has rocketed. It is estimated that about ten per cent of the prison population of 85,000 in the UK are now vegans.
The Christmas Day menu for privately run Parc prison in Bridgend, South Wales, boasted a main course of vegan Christmas vegetable crumble.
Meat-eaters could still have turkey or halal chicken.
Parc’s deputy director Ian Coles said: “We always take into account all the dietary requirements of the men in our care and Christmas is no exception.”
PETA said veggie meals could help reduce violence in jails.
